Zig Zag Ripple

I made this ripple blanket for a girl I work with. She asked I would make her an afghan in browns and burgundy. I really liked how it turned out, simple with a pop. She said she only had a loveseat so I used mine to measure for width.

Ren Fest Costume

This year for the Renaissance festival I actually made myself a costume! I have been wanting to make myself something for years but either didn't have the time or resources to do so in the past.

I frankensteined an Elizabethan costume pattern from Simplicity (that I have had in the sewing box for years now) to come up with this dress and had a lot of fun making it. Thank you again to my sister Tori for her left over bin of fabric she left me, the blue velvet came from that and without it I wouldn't have had a new costume this year! The gold silk (yep silk!!!) was also a left over piece from a jacket I made for my brother in law years ago and the gold sleeves were left over tool from a wedding anniversary.

All in all this costume cost me aprox 2 dollars this year as I had to pick up some elastic and some grommets. After pricing out similar costumes at the fair ranging from 500.00-1200.00 I think I did pretty well at 2.00! LOL

Altering and cutting out the pattern for the vest.
Concept pinning on the dummy to see how the layers and trims would go together.

Final product at the Ren-Fest. It was a really fun day and I felt so great in my new, pretty dress (that weighed about 10-15 lbs due to the velvet hehe).

Dollar Store 4th of July Skirts

6 patriotic tea towels and elastic for waist bands = 3 cute 4th of July skirts!
Line up bottom seams and sew three towels together in a circle. Fold over a wide hem/waistband at the top to thread the elastic through. Finish top seam and you have a very cute little 4th of July skirt. For the little girls were able to use less than 2/3 of the total length of the towel for Katie's skirt, leaving enough to create the third little skirt for the baby Gwynn.
Total cost with towels and elastic = 8 dollars for 3 skirts!!

Dollar Store Childs Apron

This easy to assemble child's apron was made out of two tea towels from the dollar store. Simply cut the bottom towel in half and the top towel in thirds. Attach top towel to bottom towel and sew in necessary hem lines. Create an open seam across the top of the apron to thread the neck tie through and attach the wait ribbon at either end of the bottom towel.
Use left over pieces to create a second child's apron or add a festive contrasting pocket to the bottom, and a smaller towel the child can loop through the side with the second half of the bottom.
Super fun and super cheap!!!

Repurpose childrens jeans

When they blow out the knees, the bottoms get too ragged, or they grow 3 inches in three days leaving the waist the right size but not the length DON'T throw them out. Cut off the bottom and add a festive ruffle to the bottom to create super cute Capri's.
These ones were done with one dollar bandanna's from Walmart (and it didn't take the whole bandanna either, there was enough left over for a cute hair piece).

Pregnancy Shirts

How do you get really cute and reasonably priced pregnancy shirts? Buy over-sized 3 dollar shirts at Walmart, sew an open seam under the bust-line, add a simple durable drawstring ribbon and presto...you have the same shirt motherhood is charging 20 dollars for!

Total cost with ribbon $5.00.
If you get the fancy 5 dollar shirts = $7.00
