Ren Fest Costume

This year for the Renaissance festival I actually made myself a costume! I have been wanting to make myself something for years but either didn't have the time or resources to do so in the past.

I frankensteined an Elizabethan costume pattern from Simplicity (that I have had in the sewing box for years now) to come up with this dress and had a lot of fun making it. Thank you again to my sister Tori for her left over bin of fabric she left me, the blue velvet came from that and without it I wouldn't have had a new costume this year! The gold silk (yep silk!!!) was also a left over piece from a jacket I made for my brother in law years ago and the gold sleeves were left over tool from a wedding anniversary.

All in all this costume cost me aprox 2 dollars this year as I had to pick up some elastic and some grommets. After pricing out similar costumes at the fair ranging from 500.00-1200.00 I think I did pretty well at 2.00! LOL

Altering and cutting out the pattern for the vest.
Concept pinning on the dummy to see how the layers and trims would go together.

Final product at the Ren-Fest. It was a really fun day and I felt so great in my new, pretty dress (that weighed about 10-15 lbs due to the velvet hehe).

I love it!!! I'm super glad you have found so many uses for the leftover fabrics. You did an excellant job on your costume. :)
